Dear Kamal and Amrajan,

Amrit tells me you’re planning an all-out fiesta: four days of family, music and dancing. I can’t wait.

It’s exactly the kind of celebration I love to photograph, because of how I shoot. I’m a bit of both: one moment I’m making a timeless portrait in beautiful light, the kind that will still feel stunning in a hundred years, and the next I’m in the middle of the dance floor catching the moments that feel completely of right now. Every gallery I deliver holds both.

Your celebration deserves both. Photographs you’ll frame and treasure, and photographs that put you right back on the dance floor every time you look at them.

With so much warmth,

Kate

How I’ll photograph your weekend

Two kinds of photographs, in one gallery

Timeless

Photographs that stand on their own. Beautiful light, classic composition and honest emotion, the kind of images we still look at from old Hollywood and think, that’s chic. A portrait of the two of you during your laavan, your families watching the sangeet. Images that will look just as beautiful decades from now.

Alive

Photographs that work together. Ten frames of the baraat arriving, twenty from the last hour of the sangeet. No single image tells the whole story, but together they put you back in the room: the color, the motion, the noise. Artful, a little edgy, and unmistakably 2027.

One ceremony, every angle

This is what a sequence feels like. All eighteen frames below are from one ceremony, seen from every angle our team covers: up close, from across the lawn, and from the rows where the families sat. Look at any one on its own and it’s a lovely photograph. Look at them together and you were there.

The weekend, day by day

Four celebrations, each with its own mood. Here’s how I’d cover every one.

  1. Thursday, June 10

    Bridal Henna

The calm before the celebration. The intricate lines of your henna, the women gathered around you, the music and the stories. It’s also where I first meet your family, so by Friday I’m a familiar face.

If you’d like, I’m happy to arrive early to photograph your outfit, jewelry and the setting, and for any portraits before guests arrive.

  2. Friday, June 11

    Sangeet

The all-out fiesta. Family performances, bhangra and giddha, and three hundred people who came to dance. With three of us, every performance is covered from the stage and from the crowd, up close and from across the room.

If you’d like, I’m happy to arrive early for portraits of the two of you and your families in your sangeet outfits, while everyone is fresh. Sunset is around 8:00, so if you’re up for it, I may borrow you for three minutes at golden hour.

  3. Saturday, June 12

    Haldi

The messiest, happiest morning of the weekend. Turmeric, laughter, and everyone you love gathered close around you.

If you’d like, I’m happy to arrive early for portraits and family photos before the haldi begins.

  4. Sunday, June 13

    The Wedding

Your Anand Karaj. From the first moment of the morning, each of you has a photographer as you get ready, with a third among your families. Then all of us together for the baraat, the milni, your laavan and the celebration that follows. Our detail photographer documents the ceremony setting and the reception, and if Pelican Hill allows it, the baraat from above.

During the ceremony, my team follows the etiquette of the Anand Karaj: heads covered, shoes off, never standing in front of the Guru Granth Sahib, and only as close as your granthi is comfortable with.

Four photographers, each with one job

At a celebration of three hundred, one camera can’t be everywhere. So each of us has a clear role, and together we cover everything while moving with the celebration.
